John Foskett (Trey), Chief Technology Officer
John is a co-founder and currently serves as the Chief Technology Officer of Kapa Biosystems. Prior to founding Kapa Biosystems, John held a variety of research positions in the departments of Environmental, Population, and Organismal Biology and Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at the University of Colorado with a focus on Hox gene expression and evolution. John is also an active investor and a founding partner of Table Mountain Capital LLC, a private investment company involved in funding several life science and technology-based business ventures. John serves on the Board of Directors of Diffinity Genomics, a life science tools company commercializing novel DNA extraction and purification technologies. John received a B.S. in Molecular Biology and a B.S. in Anthropology from Emory University and doctoral program in Evolutionary Biology and Molecular Biology at the University of Colorado.
Christopher McGuinness, Chief Operating Officer
Mr. McGuinness spent much of his career as a project manager and entrepreneur in the field of telecommunications. Chris was a founder of ECHO, a broadband network engineering firm. ECHO, a Singapore based joint venture between ECHO LLC and Keppel Communications, developed businesses in multiple countries, had revenue of approximately 100 million USD, and employed over 300 full-time employees. Chris was managing director of ECHO’s Germany operations. ECHO was purchased by Keppel Communications in 2003. Prior to founding ECHO, Chris worked in the telecommunications group of CH2M Hill International. At CH2M, Chris was part of the business development team that won a multi-million dollar project in Spain. He became the design and construction manager for a significant broadband build-out in the Andalusia area. Prior to his assignment in Spain, Chris worked in Penang, Malaysia as a broadband designer and later as the manager of Technical Services in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
Paul McEwan, Chief Scientific Officer
Mr. McEwan is a co-founder and serves as the Chief Scientific Officer of Kapa Biosystems. He previously co-founded both Agencourt Bioscience Corporation and Agencourt Personal Genomics. Agencourt Bioscience was a market leader in the genomic services and DNA purification markets which was successfully sold to Beckman Coulter in 2005. Agencourt Personal Genomics was acquired by Applied Biosystems and its technology was used as the basis for the SOLiD™ next-generation DNA sequencer. Previous to these positions, Paul was a member of technology development group at the Whitehead/MIT Center for Genome Research where he developed automation and biochemical processes for the scale-up effort to sequence the Human Genome. Paul has a B.S. Degree from Emory University.
Kobus Lindeque, Managing Director South Africa Facility
Mr. Lindeque will oversee the research, production and manufacturing capabilities and all day-to-day operations at the Cape Town facility. He brings more than 30 years of industry experience and spent the past 15 years at Monsanto Company. Prior to joining Kapa Biosystems, he was the Managing Director for Monsanto Africa and was responsible for the entire Sub Sahara business and more than 350 employees. Under his leadership, the company experienced consistent year over year growth and a market increase of more than 50 percent in South Africa and more than 8 percent in the rest of the continent.
Erick Suh, Vice President Global Sales
Mr. Suh joined Kapa in 2008, bringing over 10 years of business and strategy experience in the evolving DNA sequencing market. Previously, he was the Director of Genomics Services at Agencourt Bioscience. As the first employee, he worked closely with the founding team to build a world class genomics services facility and sales channel for both Genomic services and ‘SPRI’ chemistry leading to the acquisition by Beckman Coulter in 2005. Prior to Agencourt, he held positions as Product Manager at MJ Research and Team Leader at the Institute for Genomic Research. Mr. Suh has a B.S. in Biology from Siena College and completed the Greater Boston Executive Program at MIT Sloan School of Management.
